I wish I could publish a new book every four weeks and I've always wondered about people who can do that. It took me a year to write my first book and even then, I wasn't satisfied with it.

That's why I'm going back and rewriting parts of it.

I seem to remember Stephen King and writers in the 80s taking a year or so to write sequels, and nobody cared. They all looked forward to seeing the next book.

I am in the "absolutely no AI whatsoever" camp. Your article in trying to be even handed sadly seems to advocate for AI use to some extent. I can't express enough how any AI use harms all writers. For one thing, it calls ALL of our work into question. Is it a rhinestone or a real diamond? I am now in the ridiculous position of having to plaster all over my work that I WROTE THIS AND NOT SOME BOT as well as having to curate the list of other writers I was posting on here, pulling out those who cheat (yes, cheat) with AI. And it's not only cheating, it's mind stunting. Writers: Don't cut in line at the DMV, and don't try to present as your own work what some program spit out.
