A few updates.
First, I’m out of my writing slump. I’ve written 8k words this last week in my newest WIP. Some of you have begun to read it here on Substack. I’ve skipped ahead, but when I connect some of the placeholder chapters, I’ll share more here.

Now onto the main news.
As many of you know, Fiction & Fables helps promote small writers and indie authors by featuring their work in periodic segments. Indie authors don’t have access to the same resources that traditionally published authors have and bear the brunt of the cost of publishing plus the time and effort of marketing and promoting their work.
Fiction & Fables is accepting nominations for Substack fantasy and sci-fi writers as well as small and self-published indie authors of any genre (excluding highly graphic content).
Please comment or message me to nominate either a Substack publication or an indie book.
Fantasy-tastic Tuesday is Expanding
Fiction & Fables is proud to promote fantasy authors here on Substack. Previously, this was done once monthly in the Fantasy-tastic Tuesday segment. I will be expanding this category to include sci-fi.
Introducing the new hybrid: Sci-fi & Fantasy-tastic Tuesday.
Unfortunately, the name’s a bit dull. So I’m calling on you all to comment and pitch a better name.
Indie Author Spotlight
This is a periodic segment for small and self-published authors.
Due to time constraints and audience suitability, Fiction & Fables will not be able to review every book nominated. However, I will try to take a look (there are a few I’m currently looking at).
Please remember that both of these segments are free, and I will never message you asking for payment. This newsletter is entirely reader supported via paid subscriptions and voluntary tips.
Thanks for Reading!

Janine Eaby is the author of Beyond the Water’s Edge—a fantasy book series influenced by her faith, love of nature, and desire for adventure. Ideal for fans of portal fantasies to other worlds like in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.
To nominate a book, does it have to be freely available here on Substack?
I’d like to nominate Josh Louis’ brand new book, The Microfiction Method. It’s half stories, and half discussion about those stories. Plus bonus content about writing, prompts, calendars, and lots more. The release date is tomorrow, July 31, 2025.
