No. It can be sold in any mainstream online store such as Amazon, Smashwords, or even as a digital product on places such as Kit as long as it's a reasonable price. This part of the newsletter is funded by paid subscribers and tips.
I’d like to nominate Josh Louis’ brand new book, The Microfiction Method. It’s half stories, and half discussion about those stories. Plus bonus content about writing, prompts, calendars, and lots more. The release date is tomorrow, July 31, 2025.
It’s actually both. There are 30 of his Microfiction fantasy stories, and notes about each. There are also a few reflection questions about each that might help one in their own writing. That’s the main part of the book, 226 pages.
Then, at the end, there are 81 pages of bonus resources: The Microfiction Primer, a 30 -Day Microfiction Challenge, Prompts, a writing Habit Tracker, and Reflection Question Bank.
I'd like to self-nominate, if you don't mind ). The first draft of my entire novel is available on Substack in chapter format, the index of which can be found here:
You can always upload a manuscript to Draft2Digital to format an ebook version (or print). Even if you don't publish it, I think it lets you download a completely formatted PDF or ePUB you can share with others. Kindle Create is another free program for formatting, but I only use that for my Amazon books because D2D is easier to use.
To nominate a book, does it have to be freely available here on Substack?

This is interesting. Is that more along the lines of fiction and behind the scenes of the stories or a writing craft book?
